Frequently asked questions

Which subsidies exist for students moving out?

The main ones: BAföG (up to €992/month, half a grant), housing benefit (when BAföG is ruled out in principle), scholarships like the Deutschlandstipendium (€300/month) and child benefit, which continues until 25 during a first degree. Plus working-student jobs and, as a loan, the KfW student loan.

Can I combine several types of support?

Yes — BAföG + Deutschlandstipendium + a mini-job up to €603/month combine fully, for example. Only BAföG and Wohngeld are mutually exclusive, and earnings above the allowances are counted.

Do the subsidies apply to a furnished room?

Yes. A room with a rental contract in your name counts as your own accommodation — for BAföG that earns the full €380 housing allowance. The all-in rent makes applications simple: one amount, no utility statements.
