BAföG calculator 2026: how much are you entitled to?

Five sliders, one estimate: your need at 2026 rates minus counted income. Non-binding — but a good indication of whether applying pays off.

Your BAföG, estimated in 30 seconds

Non-binding estimate using the 2026 rates — only the funding office calculates bindingly.

Simplified model: need per § 13/13a BAföG (2026 rates); side job up to €603/month exempt, above that 80% counted; parental income: allowance €2,540 + €730 per sibling, of the rest 50% (+5% per sibling) exempt, remainder counted. Extra allowances, assets and special cases are not covered.

How to read the result

Even €50 of BAföG a month is worth it: half is a gift, and the decision unlocks further perks (e.g. broadcasting-fee exemption). An estimate of €0 does not automatically mean "no entitlement" — extra allowances and the truly adjusted income are known only to the office. When in doubt: apply, it costs nothing.

Rates as of September 2026 (29th BAföG Amendment Act). Without guarantee; the funding office calculates bindingly.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the estimate?

It models the need and the two main deductions in simplified form. Not included: asset checks, detailed social-security allowances, update requests, parent-independent BAföG. Good as a rule of thumb — not as a decision.

What changes in 2027?

The housing allowance is set to rise to €440 on 01.04.2027 — the maximum would climb to around €1,075. We will update the calculator once the law is enacted.

Does my working-student job count?

Yes, but only above roughly €603/month averaged over the funding period. A mini-job alongside your studies costs you no BAföG.
